Financial Services Teams

KEY ROLES

ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT

Responsible for providing leadership and management direction to Financial Services teams with a focus on:

  • Strategic planning
  • Staff Development
  • Continued improvement of financial management
  • Accounting services to the University

Support Financial Services staff through the provision of various adminstrative services including:

  • Human Resource matters
  • Internal budget control
  • Secretarial support to the management team
  • Management of the University's vehicle fleet.

CLIENT SERVICES

  • Ensures that the Universitiy's internal clients are supported with advice, documentation, information and trainng to enable them to fulfill their financial management responsibilities in a devolved environment
    Responsible for the management and co-ordination of the Financial Services main central Help Desk.
  • Maintenance of the Finance Manual.
  • Updating of online content, user documentation, forms and training programs, including supporting activities that foster positive relationships between Financial Services and individual areas within the University.

DATA MANAGEMENT

  • Responsible for the recording and payment of Accounts Payable invoices and payment requests.
  • Management of the University's corporate credit cards and cash advance facilities.
  • Processing of internal transfers form various sources throughout the University.

DECISION SUPPORT

  • Supports the information needs of the Executive and Committees through the development of services in the area of Executive and Committee quartely reporting.
  • Total University bottom up accrual budgets, revised full year forecasting and unit costing templates.
  • Support Business Units in their responsibility to comply with all University Accounting Guidelines including:

University Finance Manual
Accounting standards
FAAA
Internal and external funding requirements

  • Provision of higher level accounting support to School Managers and equivalent.
  • Undertaking routine reviews of Business Unit accounts.
  • Producing reports and managing the distribution and follow-up of the University's half year compliance check list.

EXTERNAL REPORTING

  • Responsible for providing corporate services in relation to the Univeristy's corporate external reporting and audit requirements.
  • Financial management of the University's Investments and Endowment portfolio.
  • Undertaking Treasury functions.
  • Management and maintenance of the University's central asset register.

FINANCIAL PLANNING

  • Support the Executive and the Planning and Budget Committee with financial advice and direction.
  • Preparation of the University's Estimates of Income and Distribution
    Development and delivery of presentations on the University's Estimates of Income and Distribution to committees.
  • Supports the General Resources Services Committee (GRSC), budget development and reporting, DEST and other miscellaneous reporting requirements.

FINANCIAL SYSTEMS SUPPORT

Supports the various aspects of the financial systems environment including:

  • Account combination management
  • Security profile systems access maintenance
  • Technical user support
  • Payroll and other system interface processing
  • Development of financial user reporting
  • General financial systems routine process maintenance

REVENUE

  • Responsible for the collection, receipting and recording of Accounts Receivable
  • Undertaking associated cashiering/banking functions
  • Student loans and student fees
  • Credit Management requirements

SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT

Supports the implementation of University core financial systems and develops support transactional systems, including cash receipting, web and "e" payment processes.

TAXATION

Responsible for assessing and advising on all international and domestic (state and federal) taxation compliance obligations of the University, with the main focus on the University's compliance with Goods & Services Tax (GST), Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) aand Internal taxation.
